Description

Fred Bodel's Camp. An old miner's camp. A "camp" is a temporary dwelling constructed on the opal fields near where one is mining. Most of them, however, are far from temporary. This one's over a hundred years old.

Uncomfortable as it may look, it's constructed to take advantage of the weather, the central corridor between the two buildings funnels cool wind through the rooms, and there are a multitude of tanks to collect fresh rainwater.

This building is preserved by the Lightning Ridge Historical Society, and hopefully will last for many years to come.

Lightning Ridge, NSW, Australia.

It's great to see that this is preserved so well.
